Inquiry into the treatment of Zhanbolat Mamay by the Republic of Kazakhstan
In August 2022, a group of Kazakhstani citizens concerned with the increase in human rights violations, political detentions and political prosecutions in Kazakhstan constituted a Commission of Inquiry known as the ‘Inquiry Commission into the Treatment of Zhanbolat Mamay by the Republic of Kazakhstan’ (the Commission).
The Commission chaired by Lord Ken Macdonald KC includes senior members of the UK parliament, Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP and Rushanara Ali MP. The Commission is mandated to investigate allegations of serious human rights and international law violations by the Kazakhstani government against its own people.
